MEF Funds a HS Maker Space
Coming soon to a library near you: Maker Spaces! MEF is supporting a maker space in the Masco high school library, offering community building activities and creative competitions for all students. Innovation, creativity and thinking outside the box – aspects of learning that MEF loves to encourage. Many thanks to Ms. Sheehy for initiating this program!
Recent Grants
Alas, the Middle School Steam Lab was complete during the summer of 2018 and opened for student use when they returned to school in the fall. Read more on what the renovation work on the Middle School STEAM lab included.
MEF Welcome’s Middle School Parents
Masconomet Education Foundation’s purpose is to support educational initiatives at Masco. Last year we opened a STEAM Lab in the high school and we would like to do the same for the Middle School this year. Most 8th graders take a STEM class which offers adventure in learning … and adventures need space to grow. Our plans for the bigger lab are ready; we just need your help to put together the funding. Donations can be made by clicking on the button below.
MEF supports more than STEM. We have provided teacher grants in every field from English to Spanish to Biopsychology. We are currently looking for new members to help us decide the direction of our next educational investment. If this sounds interesting to you, please email us at [email protected]. We would love to have you join our team.
Masco Grants Spring 2017
Engineering Day ($250)
Recently MEF helped underwrite the costs of Engineering Day at Masco. Engineers from 16 local companies visited Masco and spoke to all of the juniors about potential careers in Engineering. Many thanks to Mrs. Reyes for organizing. Has your child’s teacher inspired them with a fun learning experience? Thank them with a Teacher Recognition Award from MEF. All proceeds fund grants to teachers for educational initiatives like this.
Butterfly Garden ($1000)
We love when an educational initiative crosses curricula and cultures! With MEF’s support, the Middle School Spanish teachers are creating a Monarch Butterfly Way Station to help the endangered Monarch butterfly. Students will study the butterflies’ migration pattern; and it ties into their studies of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations. If you would like to support these kinds of learning initiatives, purchase a Recognition Award for your Favorite teacher, or simply make a donation on our Teacher Recognition Awards website page.
DECA Competition Trip ($2000)
This was the first year that Masco participated in the 70-year-old Distributive Education Clubs of America program. And in their first year, four students qualified to compete at the national competition! MEF made sure those students were able to travel to Anaheim and represent Masco proudly. What a great educational experience!
Making Sense of Motion Graphs ($800)
MEF helped the 9th Grade Applying Algebra to Physics teachers procure a Motion Encoder Cart and Track System to help students match motion data to motion graphs, and apply what they’ve learned to Newton’s Laws. Thanks to Ms. Rowett and Mr. Svendsen for thinking of this. If your child has a teacher who goes the extra mile, consider thanking them with a Recognition Certificate from MEF – all proceeds support initiatives like this.
